Good oral hygiene is fundamental when it comes to taking care of your mouth. Whilst Invisalign will not directly affect the whiteness of your teeth; poor dental hygiene throughout your Invisalign treatment can result in a build up of plaque and bacteria. Over time this can damage your teeth, and cause staining on your teeth and discolour your clear aligners.
Invisalign treatment is completely flexible, allowing you to maintain a great oral hygiene regimen alongside your teeth straightening process.
Dental Hygiene
Following on from your treatment, you’ll be given guidelines on how to take care of your teeth in a way that will allow you to achieve optimal results. Being mindful of this guide will prevent you from damaging or discolouring both your teeth, and retainers. The best way to take care of your mouth is by removing your trays prior to eating and putting them back in once you’ve brushed and flossed. Doing this simple step will massively avoid the build-up of plaque and bacteria build up.

Looking After Your Invisalign Trays
In order to keep your trays in the best condition, similarly to your teeth, it’s advised to brush and clean them regularly. As you’re able to easily remove your trays, no food or drinks are off limits. However, it is highly recommended that you do not consume fizzy drinks while completing your course of Invisalign.
Take a look at some of our simple steps on how to keep your Invisalign braces in the best condition:
- Remove your retainers, rinsing them thoroughly under warm water.
- Using a soft bristle toothbrush, carefully brush your retainer in small circular motions. Whilst doing so, continue to rinse, ensuring you remove all of the bacteria and calcium build up.
- If you are noticing a build up of calcium (a cloud white film), speak with our Invisalign Specialists for advice on the right cleaning solution.
Looking after your teeth is imperative during the Invisalign treatment for both your dental health, and the cleanliness of your retainer.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Commonly after completing Invisalign, patients will explore various cosmetic dental treatments. Options such as teeth whitening or composite bonding are perfect for enhancing your natural smile without undergoing invasive cosmetic procedures.
